  I happily re-read this for an English exam. Chillingly written. Well structured; in fact maybe too well structured: makes it seem unreal, the cleverness of its construction.

  Like Jane Austen and Sherlock Holmes put together

  I loved everithing in this book: the plot, the development, the conclusion. I like the way the story is told, with different narrators, so that each part is narrated by the most direct witness of the events.

  The only thing I can't understand is why I had never heard about this book before and so I read it only now for the first time!

  When Walter Hartright saw for the first time the Woman in White he did not imagine how she would somehow become part of his life.

  " In one moment, every drop of blood in my body was brought to a stop...There, as if it had that moment sprung out of the earth...stood the figure of a solitary Woman, dressed from head to foot in white"

  Engaged as a drawing master at Fairlie's House, he fell in love with the beautiful Laura Fairlie the future wife of the rude Sir Percival Glyde.

  Sooner than you can imagine Walter found himself in a situation of mistery and deception.
  Sir Percival Glyde and his Italian friend Count Fosco weave the threads of this story between questions of identity's exchange and insanity along the path and the corridors of English country houses and the madhouse.

• As usual in Collins’s works, a deep and dark secret is through the pages and it will be unveiled in the final pages. And that’s why the book is a worthwhile reading.

  The third part lets down a bit, but the first two are gripping...as in The Moonstone, Willie Collins masters the narrative by different characters.

  Good Victorian narrative, intriguing and entertaining. The first of its genre, sporting a woman in a detective role as one of the main characters, no less!
  Way, way better than Dickens…
